Employment Support

Equipping Youth to Secure Jobs — and Grow into Leaders of the Future

We help young people transition from learning to earning. Our Employment Support focus area equips youth with job-readiness skills, connects them to employers, and prepares them for meaningful work in a competitive job market. We believe every young person deserves the chance to secure decent, dignified, and sustainable employment.

Our Approach

At Harambee Youth Kenya, we believe that every young person deserves a fair chance to build a successful career. Our approach to employment focuses on preparing youth holistically—equipping them with practical skills, linking them to real opportunities, and supporting them throughout their journey into the workforce.

We focus on empowering youth with practical, relevant, and up-to-date skills that match market demand. Through vocational training, digital literacy, soft skills development, and job-readiness coaching, we ensure young people are equipped to meet employer expectations and adapt to evolving industries.

We walk with youth through their employment journey—helping them discover their strengths, map their goals, and make informed career decisions. Through one-on-one mentorship, career clinics, and continuous coaching, we build confidence and clarity, ensuring each young person follows a path aligned with their aspirations.

We actively collaborate with employers, companies, and industry partners to create opportunities for youth. By connecting young jobseekers to internships, apprenticeships, attachments, and job placements, we bridge the gap between training and real employment opportunities.

We believe exposure builds confidence. Through workplace visits, job shadowing, field assignments, and short attachments, youth experience the realities of the working environment, gain insights into career options, and develop skills that can only be learned through real-world practice.

Employment does not end at placement. We provide continuous follow-up, mentorship, problem-solving support, and workplace success training to help youth settle, perform well, and grow in their roles. This pillar ensures long-term retention, career progression, and sustained economic empowerment.

Programs Under Employment Support

Our Employment Support programs are designed to equip young people with the skills, guidance, and opportunities they need to enter the workforce with confidence. Each program addresses a key barrier youth face in accessing decent jobs—whether it’s lack of skills, limited exposure, or absence of networks.

Career Guidance & Coaching

We help youth identify their strengths, career interests, and pathways for growth through personalized coaching, career assessments, and one-on-one advisory sessions.

Job Readiness Training

Youth gain practical skills needed to compete successfully in the job market, including:

    • CV and cover letter writing

    • Interview preparation

    • Communication & presentation skills

    • Workplace behavior and professionalism

    • Time management and teamwork

Internships & Job Placements

We connect youth to internship opportunities, apprenticeships, and entry-level jobs through partnerships with local businesses, institutions, and employers seeking young talent.

Why Employment Support Matters

Employment support is essential because it helps young people overcome barriers to work, gain practical skills, and access opportunities that unlock independence and long-term economic stability.

Many young people finish school without access to meaningful work. Employment support helps bridge this gap by providing pathways to jobs, skills, and opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.

Employers seek practical, job-ready skills that many youth do not yet have. Employment support equips young people with the right training—technical, digital, and soft skills—ensuring they can confidently meet market demands.

A stable job empowers youth with income, self-worth, and the ability to support themselves and their families. Employment support strengthens this journey, helping young people transition from dependence to independence.

Unemployment often pushes youth into risky behaviors, exploitation, or hopelessness. By helping young people access decent work or create their own income, employment support becomes a driver of long-term poverty reduction.

When youth are meaningfully engaged in the workforce, communities thrive and the economy grows. Employment support channels young people’s energy, creativity, and productivity into building a stronger and more stable society.
