At Harambee Youth Kenya, leadership development is a cornerstone of sustainable community transformation. We believe that when young people are equipped with the right skills, values, and support systems, they become powerful agents of positive change.
Program Overview
Our Leadership Development Programs are designed to equip youth and community members with practical leadership skills, civic awareness, and the confidence to lead initiatives that respond to real community needs. The programs combine training, mentorship, experiential learning, and community engagement to ensure leadership is not only learned but practiced.
Participants are supported to grow as ethical decision-makers, effective communicators, and collaborative problem-solvers who can lead in diverse social, economic, and civic spaces.
Program Purpose & Vision
The Youth Ambassadors Program is designed to develop youth leaders who inspire action, represent community voices, and drive positive social change. The program envisions empowered young people actively contributing to inclusive, resilient, and self-reliant communities across Kenya.
Youth-Led Leadership Development
The program places young people at the center of leadership growth through structured training, mentorship, and practical experience. Ambassadors develop values-based leadership skills while learning to lead with integrity, accountability, and service to others.
Community Engagement & Mobilization
Ambassadors serve as bridges between Harambee Youth Kenya and local communities. They mobilize peers, support outreach activities, and encourage youth participation in programs that respond to real community needs and priorities.
Advocacy & Youth Representation
The program provides ambassadors with opportunities to represent youth perspectives in community dialogues, partnerships, and stakeholder engagements. This strengthens youth voice in decision-making spaces and promotes inclusive development.
Skills Building & Professional Growth
Participants gain practical skills in communication, project coordination, teamwork, digital engagement, and civic leadership. These transferable skills prepare ambassadors for future employment, entrepreneurship, and public service roles.
Impact Creation & Accountability
Ambassadors actively contribute to implementing and monitoring community initiatives. Through reporting, storytelling, and reflection, the program emphasizes accountability, learning, and measurable impact at the grassroots level.

Why Youth Leadership Development Matters
The HYK Youth Ambassadors Program develops passionate young people to act as trusted representatives of Harambee Youth Kenya, mobilizing peers, amplifying impact stories, and leading community action at grassroots and national levels.

Leadership training provides ambassadors with hands-on experience in leadership, communication, advocacy, teamwork, and project coordination. STEP 1
Registration
To access this opportunity, you’ll need to first register as a member of HYK SACCO. Membership gives you access to all our programs, learning resources, mentorship opportunities, and a community of peer entrepreneurs and youth leaders.
Once registered, you can submit your application — either online or at a local HYK center.
Application Period:
- Ongoing (apply early to secure your slot!)
STEP 2
Assessment & Selection
After reviewing applications, our team will invite shortlisted youth for a brief interview or pitch session (virtual or in-person).
During this stage, we evaluate:
- Your readiness and passion for entrepreneurship
- Commitment to active participation and learning
- Interest in working collaboratively in savings groups or enterprise teams
HYK values effort and potential over experience—every young person deserves a chance to grow.
STEP 3
Approval
Once selected, you will be required to undergo a mandatory 2 weeks business and financial training, and upon success completion and Agreeing to the SACCO’s repayment terms and schedule, you will receive the the microloan.
We don’t just give loans—we walk with you. Members receive:
- Regular check-ins to track progress
- Ongoing access to HYK networks and post-program support, and
- Marketing and business showcase opportunities
